Lifetime Warranty

Every Xcutlery knife is hand forged one at a time, and every one of them is covered by a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and craftsmanship. Here is what that means in plain terms, what it does not cover, and how to make a claim.

What the Warranty Covers

The warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship for the life of the knife. That includes tang, handle and pin construction failures under normal kitchen use. If a handle works loose from the tang, a pin comes free, or there is a flaw in the steel or the build that came from us, that is our problem to fix.

You can make a claim at any time. Approved claims are repaired or replaced free of charge.

What the Warranty Does Not Cover

  • Normal wear, including an edge that has gone dull and comes back with routine sharpening.
  • Damage from misuse, such as prying, twisting, throwing, or cutting on hard surfaces like glass, stone or metal.
  • Rust or corrosion caused by the dishwasher, soaking, or improper storage.
  • Modifications or repairs done by anyone other than Xcutlery.

A dull knife is not a broken knife. Sharpen it and carry on.

On rust: high carbon steel has to be hand washed, dried right away and given a light coat of food safe oil. Keep it out of the dishwasher and never leave it soaking. Over time the steel darkens into a patina, which is simply how this steel behaves. Red rust from a night in the sink is a care problem, not a warranty one. Our high carbon steel knife care guide covers the routine.

Handmade Variation Is Not a Defect

Every blade is shaped by hammer and fire, so slight differences in forge texture, hammer marks, blade finish and wood grain are part of a genuinely handmade knife. They are not defects and are not grounds for a warranty claim. Each knife is one of a kind, and no two are identical. Product photos are representative, so expect yours to have its own character.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

  1. Email us. Customers in the United States and internationally write to sales@xcutlery.com. Customers in Australia write to sales@xcutlery.com.au.
  2. Include your order number and clear photos of the knife that show the problem.
  3. Wait for our reply. We respond to every message within 1 business day.

Approved claims are repaired or replaced free of charge.

Warranty and 30 Day Returns Are Different Things

The warranty and our return policy do different jobs, and it helps to know which one you need.

A return is for when you change your mind. You have 30 days from delivery to send back a knife that is unused and in its original condition, with all packaging, inserts and accessories, for a full refund or exchange. Unused means no cutting, sharpening, washing or wear. Email us first to get a return authorization and the return address for your region. On a change of mind return, the customer pays return shipping. Custom or personalized orders cannot be returned.

The warranty is for when something we built fails. It has no 30 day limit and it covers knives in normal kitchen use, because using the knife is the whole point of owning one.

If your order arrives damaged, defective or incorrect, do not wait for either. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and photos of the item and the packaging, and we will sort it out with a replacement or a full refund.

The complete terms are in our Return and Refund Policy. Nothing on this page limits your rights under consumer protection law, including the Australian Consumer Law for customers in Australia. Questions first? Try the FAQ or the contact page.

A dull edge is normal wear, and bringing it back is a sharpening job. Our guide on how to sharpen a meat cleaver covers the whetstone routine and includes a section on chef knives. If you are still choosing a knife, every blade in our best sellers is covered by the same lifetime warranty against defects in materials and craftsmanship.
